Azure Information Protection(AIP)는 Microsoft의 클라우드 기반 솔루션으로 조직이나 기관에서 문서나 메일을 보호하는 데 사용하며, Azure Information Protection 레이블을 사용하여, 문서와 전자 메일을 분류하거나 식별할 수 있다.
보안 기술로는 Azure Rights Management(Azure RMS)를 사용하며, 해당 기술은 Office 365, Azure Active Directory 등으로 통합되어 제공된다. 또한, 문서 및 메일이 온-프레미스, 클라우드에 있는지 여부와 상관없이 어떤 환경에서도 사용 가능하다.
Azure Rights Management 서비스를 활성화하면, 조직 내에서 사용자가 데이터를 엑세스 할 수 있는 두 가지 기본 템플릿을 사용하게 되는데, 해당 기능을 통해 사용자가 조직에서 데이터를 유출시키는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
사용자가 Azure Information Protection 클라이언트를 설치하게 되면, Azure Information Protection은 사용자의 기존 오피스 환경과 통합되어 구성되며, 아래와 같이 Information Protection 표시줄이 오피스 환경에 추가되는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 또한 해당 Information Protection 표시줄을 사용하여, 사용자는 파일 형식 및 데이터를 분류 및 보호할 수 있다.
Exchange Online 환경에서 Azure Information Protection을 사용하게 되면, Gmail, Hotmail 또는 Microsoft 계정을 사용하는 외부 사용자에게도 암호화된 문서를 발송할 수 있으며, 메일을 받은 사람은 일회성 암호를 사용하여 브라우저에서 중요한 정보를 읽을 수 있다.
예를 들어 Gmail 사용자의 이메일 메시지에는 다음이 표시된다.
외부에 보내는 메일 역시 자신의 조직에 속한 사용자에게 보호된 메일을 보낼 때와 다르지 않으며, 아래와 같이 Information Protection 클라이언트가 설치된 Outlook 아래 옵션을 통해 발송하면 된다.
